Sledging through the Swiss Alps

Our second winter trip was to Zermatt, Switzerland. My wife wanted to see the Alps up close (she's seen them from a plane, aplenty)....and it was sort of an obvious "winter" trip in Europe. Zermatt, in the winter anyway, is a serious ski town. But we don't ski! Although we did actually buy ski pants [...]

Bundling Up in Krakow, Poland

Poland is a place I've ALWAYS been interested in traveling to. Why? Because I'm half-Polish - depending on where one draws the Poland-Ukrainian border. In fact I have Polish blood on both sides! We planned to visit Krakow a couple days after Christmas. Additionally, my brother joined us as the experienced Krakow tour guide. You [...]

Christmas Markets in Belgium

Ironically, this year we spent our Thanksgiving....at the Christmas Markets in Belgium! Only a 2.5 hour, £90, train ride on the Eurostar from London, we arrived at Brussels on Thanksgiving morning and then shortly thereafter boarded another 45 minute train, heading back west(!), to Bruges. The plan was one night in Bruges and then one [...]

Visiting Istanbul

Well we made it. Istanbul was our second really big, much-anticipated trip. We wanted to go somewhere exotic, it was highly recommended by many people including my brother, and after all, TripAdvisor's readers have it ranked as the number one travel destination IN THE WORLD. And it was terrific! We flew direct from London to [...]

¡Viaje A Madrid!

A couple of weeks ago, on the spur of the moment, I decided to take the kids to Madrid, Spain. Inez was en route to New York for business, I'd heard good things about Madrid, I can understand and speak Spanish (un poquito), flights weren't that expensive, our schedule was wide open,....and basically because we [...]

A Boring Month in London

We have not traveled outside of London for a full month now! Yes, our goal was to venture out somewhere, via bus, train, or plane, as much as we could, on a rough timetable of one trip per month. But we are a bit road weary; we are trying to milk the beautiful London weather [...]

My 9-Year Old Chimney Sweep

My son is 9.8 years old and it's time he started working and earning his own money. I had a notion that he should "busk" - which is perform music on the street for tips. There's no doubt in my mind that he would make a ton of money playing the keyboard here in London [...]

Living in London – Vacationing in Scotland!

It was a last minute sort of trip. We always knew we would do something local (UK or Ireland) this August because the more logical (i.e. warmer) locales like Spain, Southern France, and Italy are too jammed and too expensive this time of year. But we never actually got around to planning anything! We took [...]

Living in London – Vacationing in Sicily!

We just enjoyed our biggest, best-est, family vacation yet. For 10 years Inez and I have dreamt of going to Sicily but the cost, plus having young children....well it all conspired to put the idea far on the back burner. But living in London has its benefits.  In this case, SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper flights to everywhere [...]
